We were incredibly excited about our family's month-long trip to Sydney, but it wasn't all just giddy anticipation.
That's because there were several worries and variables waiting for our family even before departure.
There were issues with the kids' after-school academies, adjusting vacation days, and so many things that had to be handled in advance.
Unexpected Accident News Before the Trip
Martial law was suddenly declared, making the domestic situation very unstable. A few weeks before departure, we heard the news of a plane collision at Muan Airport in Korea.
The moment I heard that news, a fear of flying washed over me, and I started asking myself if going overseas was really a good decision.
My Husband's Work and the Possibility He Couldn't Join Us
Around the same time, something unexpected happened at my husband's company. Work piled up, creating a situation where my husband might not be able to join the trip.
Just in case, I even had to prepare a scenario where only the kids and I would depart.
Could I really go with just the kids by myself? I waited day by day, praying that the four of us could go together. I'm not good at English, and taking a plane was scary again... a flood of complex emotions washed over me.
A Family Trip to Sydney We Couldn't Give Up
Despite all this, we couldn't give up on this trip.
This family trip to Sydney wasn't just simple sightseeing, but a precious opportunity for the kids to learn and grow in a new environment. I had many worries, but I gathered myself with the belief that we could do well as much as we prepared. The kids were full of curiosity about living abroad and had clear plans for their language study. They actually stepped up, being braver than me.
Our Family's First Step Together
Time passed through a long and anxious situation, and thankfully my husband also did his best to adjust his work schedule. Ultimately, the whole family was able to depart for Sydney together. Since there were so many worries and twists before departure, I think this trip will be remembered as even more special for our family. I didn't know the process of setting aside a whole month would be this anxious and difficult, but because it's such an important trip, we did our best to make adjustments and left.
